SDA and Ugljanin electoral winners in Sandžak

After yesterday's early parliamentary elections in Serbia, it was clear last night that the absolute winner was the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) Aleksandar Vučić.

The Party of Democratic Action (SDA) of Sandžak Sulejman Ugljanin has also secured its place in Parliament with three mandates, and is the winner in the Sandžak region (Novi Pazar, Tutin, Sjenica and Prijepolje), reports the Patria News Agency.

The Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS)  Vojislav Koštunica will practically not be in parliament for the first time since its founding in 1992. 

According to today's CESID data, SNS won 48.2 percent of the votes, which means that in the Parliament of Serbia, out of a total of 250 seats, they will have 158 deputies. Analysts assessed that it is demotivating for the opposition that one party will dominate the national assembly.

The Serbian Progressive Party and its leader Aleksandar Vučić achieved their best result since the first multi-party elections held on December 9, 1990, when 46.1 percent, or 2.3 million citizens, voted for the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) Slobodan Milošević, based on which this party received 194 parliamentary seats, reports NAP.

However, according to last night's and today's results, Ivica Dačić's SPS won 44 mandates. In third place is the Democratic Serbia (DS) with 19 mandates, followed by Nova Demokratska Srbija (NDS) Boris Tadić with 18 mandates, and these are the only majority parties that passed the census.

The official results of the parliamentary elections are to be determined no later than March 20, from when the 30-day deadline for the constitution of the new convocation of the republican parliament begins. In his address, after the preliminary results were announced, Aleksandar Vučić said that he expects the formation of the new Serbian government by May 1, and discussions about possible coalitions will take place later.
