SDA: Entities have no right to self-determination, Dayton abolished such possibility

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The conclusions of the SNSD Main Board, which announce «activation of the right to self-determination», represent a gross undermining of peace and stability in BiH, and a direct attack on the Dayton Peace Agreement, which does not allow in any of its words the possibility of self-determination for entities or peoples, the SDA said.

"The RS entity exists solely on the basis of the Dayton Peace Agreement, and does not possess any rights, except those explicitly listed in the Dayton Agreement. Everything else is the desperate illusions of Milorad Dodik and the SNSD, which represent dangerous adventurism and a first-class security threat. Inventing the right to self-determination for the RS, through a frivolous and erroneous
interpretation of UN conventions, whose only signatories are states, not regions or entities, with announcements of unilateral activation of that «right» - represents a dangerous abandonment of the framework of the Dayton Peace Agreement, as the most relevant act defining the current status of BiH in the order of international law, and thus the stability and peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina and this part of Europe.

The Dayton Peace Agreement can be changed only by consensus, and as long as the SDA has a say in that process, the only possible changes are harmonization with the European Convention on Human Rights and the implementation of the Opinion of the European Commission, with the aim of strengthening the civic principle and the supremacy of the state over the entities. Dodik's dangerous anti-Dayton, anti-consensus and secessionist messages require an urgent and decisive reaction from the Peace Implementation Council and the OHR, and Dodik himself and the SNSD must understand that by unilaterally abandoning the Dayton Peace
Agreement they would endanger peace, but also nullify the only act on the basis of which entities exist in BiH, and bring themselves into a political and strategic dead end from which they will hardly find a way out", the SDA stated.
