SDA: Bosnia and Herzegovina must not become a haven for convicted war criminals and criminals

(Patria) - Bosnia and Herzegovina must not become a haven for convicted war criminals and criminals from the region who abuse the citizenship of our country, the Party of Democratic Action announced.

"The case of Branimir Glavaš and his escape from the judiciary of the Republic of Croatia to Bosnia and Herzegovina once again brings to the fore the decades-long problem of abuse of dual citizenship.

In Croatia and Serbia, there are a large number of persons who have been convicted of war crimes before courts in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and recently the escape of convicted criminals and criminals from these countries to Bosnia and Herzegovina has intensified.

This clearly indicates that interstate agreements and laws regulating this area must be redefined in order to narrow the space for abuse," the statement said.

Although it is clear that providing refuge to convicted war criminals sentenced in our country is to a large extent the policy of neighboring states, Bosnia and Herzegovina must not fall into this trap.

"With persistent insistence that neighboring states extradite finally convicted criminals to Bosnia and Herzegovina, our country must simultaneously take steps against fugitives from other states, and in this regard, all possibilities provided by current agreements and legal solutions must be used.

In addition, SDA will insist that this be a topic of parliamentary debate and initiate amendments to regulations that will introduce additional measures to prevent abuse of dual citizenship," SDA added.
