Schmidt prevented the adoption of the Srebrenica genocide resolution in the German Bundestag

(Patria) - The German Bundestag planned to adopt a resolution on the Srebrenica genocide on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide.

However, High Representative Christian Schmidt directly intervened and warned German officials that such a move would lead to an "escalation of tensions" in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Political analyst Jasmin Mujanović announced this on his X platform.

The idea was for the content of the resolution to be based on the Resolution on the Srebrenica Genocide adopted by the United Nations General Assembly.

There was political will to do so, as Germany itself was one of the initiators of the Resolution adopted at the UN.

The High Representative explicitly stated on several occasions that this was not a good idea and that it would further deepen the crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

His role was crucial in stopping the process before the draft resolution was even written, Istraga.ba has learned.

We remind you that the Resolution on the Srebrenica Genocide was adopted by the UN General Assembly in May 2024.

The Resolution designated July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide. The Resolution aims to prevent the recurrence of genocide and revisionism.

It also calls on all UN member states to include judicially established facts about the genocide in their educational programs.
