Schmidt spoke with the Austrian President: BiH's future is in the European Union

(Patria) - High Representative Christian Schmidt addressed the media in Sarajevo today after a meeting with Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen, who is on a multi-day visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"I thanked the President not only for Austria's engagement in BiH, but also addressed the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Part of that is that European integration must urgently move forward. I could not explain to the President how it is that a country that has a billion euros available is unable to access that money. It remains the obligation of politicians in BiH to show the international community that they can do something and that they are doing something themselves," said Schmidt.

He added that the decision is not in the hands of the international community, but of the politicians and voters in BiH.

"I can only say that it is a good feeling in all of this that we must and should see BiH in the future within the EU. We will continue to advocate for this issue," said Schmidt.
