Schmidt visited the US: Full respect for the constitutional and legal framework of BiH

(Patria) - High Representative Christian Schmidt visited Washington on November 22 and 23, 2021, to discuss current political developments and the overall peace implementation process in Bosnia and Herzegovina with United States officials.

During meetings with high-ranking officials from the State Department and the National Security Council, including National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, State Department Counselor Derek Chollet, and Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, the High Representative spoke about the challenges caused by the current blockade of political and institutional processes at the state level, as well as irresponsible adventurous initiatives coming from the leadership of Republika Srpska.

"Full respect for the Dayton Peace Agreement and the constitutional and legal framework of BiH, preserving institutional functionality, as well as strengthening institutional capacities are the main issues the international community in Bosnia and Herzegovina is focusing on. Preventing the reversal of results achieved over the past 26 years is a key priority. A successful response to the current challenges will provide Bosnia and Herzegovina with the opportunity to progress on the path to the EU, which also includes meeting the goals and conditions for ending international supervision," said High Representative Schmidt.

During his visit to Washington, the High Representative also met with Alina Iancu, Head of the International Monetary Fund Mission for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and attended a roundtable discussion titled "Bosnia and Herzegovina and Stability in the Western Balkans" organized by the Hudson Institute and the Hanns-Seidel Foundation.
