Schmidt and Truss: Citizens' rights are most important

(Patria) - Overcoming the political crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina is necessary for the country to redirect its focus to the serious socio-economic challenges its citizens are facing, and these challenges create difficulties for everyone and encourage the departure of talented young people, said High Representative Christian Schmidt during talks in London with the British Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Elizabeth Truss.

During the talks with Secretary of State Truss, the High Representative stated that the long-standing support of Great Britain for Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Dayton Peace Agreement is an irreplaceable element in preserving peace and that Great Britain's engagement continues to play a significant role in the country's economic recovery. The High Representative proposed focusing efforts on economic cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina and the need to help foster stronger engagement, especially from the younger generation, to overcome old segregation narratives.

The High Representative expressed his conviction that a revitalized and focused approach from the international community will result in Bosnia and Herzegovina quickly becoming a "peaceful, stable country irreversibly on the path of European integration".

During his visit to London, the High Representative also spoke with Minister for Europe and the Americas Wendy Morton, the British Prime Minister's advisor on international affairs and Deputy National Security Advisor David Quarrey, and with Minister for the Armed Forces James Heappey.

In addition, High Representative Schmidt met with members of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose aim is to strengthen relations and cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Great Britain.
