Schmidt: The state must not be divided, personal sanctions are one option

(Patria) - The High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, stated for German media that he believes it is possible to achieve unanimity in the European Union for imposing sanctions against individuals in Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to prevent a “hot conflict”, N1 Sarajevo reports. 

In an interview with “The Pioneer”, Schmidt warned of the division in the country and requested assistance from the European Union.

“To prevent the current conflict from turning into a hot conflict in which people shoot at each other, we must make it clear: the state must not be divided and it must function,” he stated, as reported by RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND).

“Personal sanctions would be one option,” Schmidt proposed, adding that he believes it is possible for the EU to be unanimous on this issue.

He also stated that he believes financial aid to BiH should be conditional.

“I recommend that all international donors do this, not just the EU,” he said.
