Electricity Distributors' Conference: Sensitive Topics in Mostar

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Bosnian-Herzegovinian Committee of the International Conference on Electricity Distribution (CIRED) has begun preparations for holding the Second Conference, which will review current activities and perspectives, as well as practices, new knowledge, and technical solutions on which this segment of the electric power system is based. In this regard, experts and scientists from Bosnia and Herzegovina and neighboring countries have been invited to participate in the work of this gathering, which will be held in Mostar this autumn, by submitting their papers. Paper submissions are possible until the end of March, with delivery by the end of June.

In accordance with the nature of the study committees, a very broad, and partly challenging, list of preferential topics has been compiled, structured according to the areas covered by the six study committees operating within this association. These are: network components; power quality; system management and protection; distributed generation and efficient energy use; distribution system planning; and the electricity market.

Potential authors are invited to, among other things, consider the need for adopting new regulations and standards, hazards and protection from electromagnetic fields, noise, fire, power quality in industrial plants, costs caused by poor power quality, analyze the occurrence of faults, energy storage technologies, the concept of smart cities and smart buildings, efficiency of electricity use, etc. Answers are also expected to numerous questions in the field of electromobility, relating to the management and development of the introduction of electric cars into mass use, as well as sustainable transport and the electrification of public transport in cities.

As stated in the invitation to participate in the conference, experts are also expected to submit papers presenting forecasts of electricity demand and distribution system load, and how much this will be affected by electric vehicles, as well as how much energy can be expected from renewable sources.

The authors' focus is also expected in the area of application of information systems and their support in distribution processes, improvement of electricity consumption metering systems, and creation of an acceptable model for an electricity exchange in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The preparation and holding of this conference are part of the activities of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Committee of the International Council on Large Electric Systems, within which the BH CIRED committee also operates. The first CIRED conference was held at the end of 2018 and, according to the words of CIRED President Prof. Dr. Drago Bago, confirmed that electricity distributors in Bosnia and Herzegovina possess the high professional knowledge necessary for system management and accepting challenges imposed by the development of new technologies, economic conditions, and the needs of both traditional and modern consumers.

Edhem Bičakčić, President of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian CIGRE Committee, expects that, in addition to domestic experts, a large number of experts from neighboring countries, with whom cooperation has been expanded and strengthened in recent years, will submit papers for this year's conference.
