Union of Trade Unions of BiH: It is time to enable us to work, protect rights and live a normal life

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The year we are leaving behind will be marked as a year of a pandemic that has placed many challenges and trials before all of us, it was stated in a press release from the Union of Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina (SSSBiH).        

"We enter the new year with hope that it will bring, above all, victory over Covid-19, and then better working conditions for all workers. It is high time that we are enabled to live and work in normal conditions, to have workplaces where workers' rights will be protected and a decent wage ensured, from which we can live with dignity. Even in times of greatest challenges, workers have shown that they are ready to risk their health to fulfill their work tasks and ensure the normal course of life for fellow citizens," it was said. 

They add that the entire society owes sincere gratitude to the workers.

"Unfortunately, there were and still are those who tried to use the time of the pandemic to diminish workers' rights. The pandemic cannot be an excuse for further flexibilization of work and the expansion of temporary and occasional jobs. Our workers are quality, professionally perform their jobs and deserve to be adequately valued and rewarded by employers," conclude from SSSBiH.

They note that they are aware that the pandemic will leave long-term consequences on our economy and our lives, but that we must be ready to fight to emerge from this crisis as a society in which workers and their work will be appreciated and adequately valued.

"We, as the Union of Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, will continue to be a support to all of you and strive to protect and increase your rights and to build a better future for our children together. May the new year bring you health, peace and all the best to you and your families," they stated from SSSBiH.
