Sattler and Platzer Congratulate BiH Armed Forces Day

(Patria) - On the occasion of the Day of the Armed Forces of BiH, Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH Johann Sattler and EUFOR Commander Major General Alexander Platzer extend congratulations to the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AFBiH) and all those who serve in them.

"The formation of the AFBiH was a significant step in strengthening security, stability and trust in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The EU has supported the AFBiH from the very beginning, recognizing the importance of the AFBiH as the most important security force, especially through capacity building and training, which was the focus of EUFOR from 2012 to 2018.

The professionalism and excellence of the multi-ethnic Armed Forces have been recognized, including their significant role in demining, disposal of surplus ammunition, weapons and explosives, as well as in providing assistance to civil protection throughout the country.

Recognizing the importance of the AFBiH's activities in ensuring a safe and secure environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the EU Council adopted on 4 November 2021 an assistance measure worth 10 million euros for improving the capacities of the AFBiH Demining Battalion. The assistance measure will enable the procurement of 34 transport vehicles, 34 medical vehicles, and 150 metal detectors. This is the first assistance measure under the recently established European Peace Facility.

The EU unequivocally supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and is committed to preserving a safe and secure environment in the country through EUFOR's engagement. Any attempt to undermine the AFBiH, which is a joint achievement of the entire country, undermines the interests of all citizens in BiH", the statement from Sattler and Platzer reads.
