Sattler and Kavalec at HJPC: Only the BiH Parliament can change jurisdiction

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - EU Special Representative Johann Sattler and OSCE Ambassador Kathleen Kavalec met today with the leadership of the HJPC of BiH, where they expressed support for the HJPC of BiH as a unique regulatory body.

Sattler and Kavalec emphasised that the HJPC is the guarantor of the independence of the judiciary throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, based on the Agreement on the Transfer of Competences and the Law on the HJPC of BiH.

During the meeting, the ambassadors stressed that only the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH has the authority to amend the legislative framework regulating the establishment and competences of the HJPC of BiH. In addition, they pointed out that Bosnia and Herzegovina needs the HJPC of BiH to guarantee the independence of the judiciary, the efficiency and effectiveness of court proceedings, and to guide judicial reform aimed at further strengthening independence, efficiency and effectiveness.

Ambassador Sattler also made it clear that a new comprehensive Law on the HJPC of BiH is essential for progress on the European path.
