Meeting of the Government and the Rector of the University of Sarajevo

SARAJevo, (Patria) - A meeting between the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton Edin Forto and ministers in the KS Government with a delegation from the academic community, led by the Rector of the University of Sarajevo Rifat Škrijelj, was an opportunity to discuss current topics regarding the work and problems of the University, the KS Government announced.

The Government announced that the new collective agreement and the financial integration of the University into the KS treasury have ensured higher and regular salaries for the academic community, which can now be compared to the salaries of their colleagues in more developed countries.

“After 15 years, with the support of this Government and the Assembly of the Canton, we have managed to raise our salaries. The activities undertaken by the Government regarding the arrangement of the Campus, the final solution for its heating, and the announcement of the imminent construction of the Library are also of great importance to us. The transition to the treasury has facilitated our financial operations, although some legal and financial issues are still open, and I believe we will find answers to them together,” emphasized Rector Škrijelj.

The Campus area needs to be placed within urban frameworks, planned thoughtfully, and optimal solutions for its full-capacity functioning in line with the needs of the academic community should be jointly reached, is one of the conclusions from this meeting.

The Minister of Education, Science, and Youth Zineta Bogunić announced that the long-awaited standards and norms for higher education will soon be before the Canton Government.

“This document will provide answers to many questions, in terms of personnel, expertise, and finances. The financial resources saved through their application will be directed towards teaching processes in faculties where there is a shortage,” Minister Bogunić underlined on this occasion.
