(Patria) - Chairman of the BiH Presidency Željko Komšić met with US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau at the State Department (Washington, DC) who, at the beginning of the meeting, expressed condolences on the tragic accident that occurred in Sarajevo.
Key topics of discussion were the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, strengthening economic cooperation, and energy security. During the meeting, Landau clearly stated that they are very dissatisfied with what Milorad Dodik is doing, and emphasized that he certainly has no support from anyone in the US administration for it. His actions undermine political stability and future plans, as well as economic projects for which the US side has shown strong interest and readiness for cooperation.
Speaking about the RS's contract with a Canadian lobbying firm and about the clause in that contract, which calls for them to advocate and support lobbying for the independence of RS, it was emphasized that this directly undermines the Dayton Agreement, peace, and stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Chairman Komšić informed the Deputy Secretary of State that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of our country sent a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, as well as to all members of the UN Security Council, warning about the consequences of the provisions in the lobbying contract concerning the ultimate end goal – the independence of RS from BiH.
Chairman Komšić also mentioned the recent statements by Milorad Dodik, which he characterized as chauvinistic and Islamophobic.
The interlocutors emphasized that stability, economic development, and the implementation of infrastructure projects represent the key to long-term progress of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that it is precisely the economy and progress that create a positive political and social environment. In this context, a clear message about the continued strong engagement of the United States towards Bosnia and Herzegovina was confirmed.
Chairman Komšić expressed strong support for the South Interconnection project, emphasizing the importance of the agreement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia, as well as the need to proceed with its implementation as soon as possible in the interest of energy security and the economic development of the country.
In conclusion, it was agreed that the continuation of cooperation on projects that contribute to economic progress represents an important foundation for the stability and prosperity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
