Meeting at the BiH Presidency: Brčko District is under the exclusive sovereignty of the state of BiH

(Patria) - Member of the BiH Presidency Denis Bećirović spoke with the Chairman of the Arbitration Tribunal for the dispute over the inter-entity demarcation line in the Brčko area, Ambassador John ClintWilliamson.

Bećirović informed Ambassador Williamson about the current attack on the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the fundamental provisions of the Dayton Peace Agreement by the leadership of the BiH entity Republika Srpska. He emphasized that this represents a direct threat to peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region. He pointed out that peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina can only be preserved by protecting the sovereignty and constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as by stopping the anti-Dayton and anti-constitutional actions of the leadership of the BiH entity Republika Srpska.

Member of the BiH Presidency Denis Bećirović stated that Brčko District of BiH, as a unique administrative unit of local self-government, plays an important role in preserving peace and stability. He also said that Brčko District of BiH is of particular importance for the protection of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the greatest security crisis since the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement.

Bećirović reminded that the only military forces whose presence is allowed on the territory of Brčko District of BiH are the Armed Forces of BiH and the military forces of NATO and the EU. He stated that the leaders of RS are threatening armed violence with their irresponsible actions and must be decisively stopped.

Ambassador Williamson emphasized that he came on a visit due to the newly created situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Everyone must respect the status of Brčko District of BiH, which is under the exclusive sovereignty of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is important to respect the status of Brčko District of BiH in accordance with the provisions of the Final Arbitration Decision. He also called for careful action and the avoidance of any measures that jeopardize the status of Brčko District of BiH.
