KCUS and BiH Ministry of Defence Meeting: Focus on Transplant Program and Helicopter Patient Transport

(Patria) - A working consultation meeting was held at the University Clinical Center of Sarajevo (KCUS) between the KCUS management and representatives of the Ministry of Defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Armed Forces of BiH.

The meeting's topic was the improvement of cooperation in the field of helicopter transport, with a special emphasis on its role in the transplant program, as well as in the transport of critically ill patients. The current status of the helipad within KCUS and the need for more efficient networking of healthcare institutions in the Federation of BiH were discussed, in order to ensure timely reaction in situations requiring helicopter transport.

Representing the Ministry of Defence of BiH and the Armed Forces of BiH, the meeting was attended by Dženan Redžo, Assistant Minister for Policy and Plans, from the Ministry of Defence of BiH Brigadier Nenad Jandrić, Brigadier Kemal Kulašević, and Colonel Dr. Hamdija Mujarić from the Joint Staff of the AF BiH.

On behalf of KCUS, the meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Hajrija Maksić, Acting General Director of KCUS, Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Omerhodžić, Coordinator of the Transplant Program at KCUS, Senada Džebo, Acting Chief Nurse of KCUS, and lawyer Lejla Mašić.

The participants of the meeting jointly concluded that the transplant program is one of the most important segments of modern medicine that literally saves human lives. Its efficiency requires precise logistics, rapid action, and institutional synergy. In this regard, the support of the Ministry of Defence of BiH and the Armed Forces of BiH through helicopter transport of donor organs and patients is of exceptional importance. This cooperation is an example of how, through joint action, contributions can be made to the health and safety of BiH citizens.

It was agreed at the meeting that further organizational activities will be defined and concrete steps will be taken towards establishing appropriate legal regulations. A meeting with representatives of the transplant program of the Federal Ministry of Health is also planned for the next period, in order to further establish inter-sectoral coordination.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the cooperation so far, and readiness for its further improvement in order to provide the highest quality healthcare to all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, including members of the Armed Forces of BiH.
