Meeting Cormack, Wigemark, Čović: General Elections 2018 Must Be Held

Ambassador of the United States of America Maureen Cormack and Special Representative of the EU and Head of the EU Delegation to BiH Lars-Gunnar Wigemark met with the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dragan Čović. They discussed a range of issues concerning reforms, new momentum on the path to the EU, and strengthening the rule of law, it was announced after the meeting, reports Patria agency.

They also emphasized the responsibility of all Bosnian-Herzegovinian politicians to ensure that the General Elections in 2018 are held smoothly and that institutions are formed in a timely manner. The Chairman of the Presidency, Čović, committed to discussing possible amendments to the Election Law in the spirit of dialogue and consensus.

Ambassador Cormack and the Special Representative of the EU and Head of the EU Delegation to BiH Lars-Gunnar Wigemark emphasized that any proposal must respect court decisions and the rule of law, and bring the country closer to European Union standards. The US and the EU support constructive efforts to resolve differences in views and for the country to progress on its path to the EU.
