Saša Magazinović elected Vice-President of the Socialist Group in the Council of Europe

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The President of the Main Board of the Social Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina and a member of the Delegation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has been elected Vice-President of the political group of Socialists, Democrats and Greens (SOC).

This traditionally influential, and currently the largest political group in the Council of Europe, brings together deputies from parties that are members of the Party of European Socialists (PES), the Socialist International (SI) and the Progressive Alliance (PS), the SDP BiH announced.

The goal of the Socialist Group in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is the application of the fundamental principles of democratic socialism, both in the Parliamentary Assembly and in the member states of the Council of Europe. This political group is a resolute defender of human rights, a promoter of peace and social justice, and an advocate of sustainable development. This group is currently headed by Frank Schwabe from Germany.

On the occasion of his election to this significant position, Magazinović stated that this situation represents a new challenge for him, given that political groups in the Council of Europe, just as in the European Parliament, have a very prominent role. 

"I believe it is good that as many people from Bosnia and Herzegovina as possible are represented in international institutions, that they hold responsible positions in international organizations, but also in bodies where everything that directly or indirectly concerns Bosnia and Herzegovina is decided. Although my work within the Socialist Group is not strictly related to Bosnia and Herzegovina, but to all topics addressed by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, I will of course pay special attention to activities related to our country. This session also marks the start of a new monitoring cycle for Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will end with the consideration of a report at the plenary session at the end of the year. It is very important that all of us from Bosnia and Herzegovina do our utmost to ensure that this important document, which will be adopted in the Council of Europe, reflects the real situation in the best interest of our state. The Socialist Group in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, whose Vice-President I have become, has always demonstrated support for the interests of Bosnia and Herzegovina. I have no doubt that this support will now be even more intense," Magazinović said.

Saša Magazinović has been present in international politics for many years, both as a representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the parliamentary level through the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and through international social democratic organizations such as the Party of European Socialists, of which he is a member of the Presidency, the Socialist International and the Progressive Alliance.
