Šarović: I expected an agreement in Neum, the election process needs to be improved

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The question is whether those who did not reach an agreement in Neum will agree to changes to the Election Law that would improve the election process, said the president of SDS, Mirko Šarović, in Trebinje today, commenting on the end of yet another round of negotiations on electoral legislation.

Šarović told reporters in Trebinje that he believed that parties from the Federation of BiH would reach an agreement on changes to the BiH Election Law in Neum, and that their failure to do so calls into question the transparency and integrity of the elections.

According to Šarović, SDS is in favour of proceeding with a smaller package regarding changes to the Election Law in BiH, as this would make elections fairer and suit all political parties, and he believes that international mediators are also in favour of this option.

Šarović added that those who oppose this small package are essentially in favour of retaining the old rules and the existing law.

"If they are against it now, it means they have been deceiving us all along and are practically happy that changes to the electoral legislation in BiH have not been adopted," said Šarović.
