Blocks 3 and 4 in Tuzla Thermal Power Plant, Block 5 in Kakanj Thermal Power Plant, and UKO 3 of Natronka from Maglaj will not invest in measures to reduce harmful emissions but will operate for a maximum of 20,000 working hours between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2023, after which the blocks will be completely shut down.
This practically means that these blocks will be able to operate for about 4.5 months per year. In the meantime, work will be done on the construction of replacement blocks, such as Block 7 in Tuzla Thermal Power Plant.
This was confirmed at the annual press conference by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mirko Šarović, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.
Šarović told reporters that this is part of the National Plan for the Reduction of Emissions from Large Combustion Plants in Bosnia and Herzegovina (NPSE).
Ugljevik Thermal Power Plant and Gacko Thermal Power Plant, as well as Tuzla Thermal Power Plant 5, Tuzla Thermal Power Plant 6, Kakanj Thermal Power Plant 6, Kakanj Thermal Power Plant 7, UKO-4 and LUKO-4 (Natron Hayat - Maglaj) have chosen Option 3 from the National Plan, which involves investments of approximately 640 million KM to achieve, by 1 January 2028, that emissions of harmful gases (carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides) and substances (dust - solid particles) comply with the permitted limit values.
The total emissions of all LCPs in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2014 amount to about 273,577 tonnes of SO2, about 20,511 tonnes of NOx, and about 6,616 tonnes of solid particles. The ultimate goal of this NPSE is to reduce annual emissions of LCPs to 14,243 tonnes of sulphur dioxide (SO2), 7,746 tonnes of nitrogen oxides (NOx), and 780 tonnes of solid particles by 1 January 2028, reports NAP.
