Sarajevo Residents in Fear: Who is Behind the Arsonists Ravaging the City and Burning Cars

From December 3rd to date, according to reports from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, 26 cars have been set on fire in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. These are indiscriminate arsons, occurring in different parts of the city, reports the Patria news agency.  

Currently, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton does not have information about the motives or the perpetrators. Unknown persons are being sought, and Sarajevo residents, regardless of whether they own an expensive four-wheeler or an older model, fear that their vehicle will be next to be set on fire.

The police still do not know whether this is a whim or a new "trend" among those who want to assert their place in the so-called Sarajevo underworld, or if it is a well-thought-out plan behind which lie political centers of power, aiming to demonstrate even further, in addition to all the hardships we are facing, that this is a city and country where it is unsafe to live.

January 26

Around 2 AM, the police were informed that in the Ilidža settlement of Sokolović Kolonija, on Arnaudija street, a Passat owned by N. S. was set on fire. Shortly after, a fire was reported in the Butmir settlement, on Ilirska street at number 101. A BMW owned by U. A. was set on fire.

January 25

On January 25, 2015, around 1:15 AM, the Fifth Police Station was informed that in Jošanička street, Vogošća municipality, a fire occurred on a passenger motor vehicle, a VW Passat, owned by N.A. from Sarajevo. The fire also spread to a Nissan, owned by K.V. from Sarajevo, which was parked in the immediate vicinity.

January 24

On January 24, 2015, the Third Police Station was informed that in Bajrama Zenunija street, at number 4, Novi Grad municipality, a fire occurred on a passenger motor vehicle, a Mercedes, license plate J09-M-554, owned by G.I. from Sarajevo.

January 22

On January 22, 2015, around 6:50 PM, the Fourth Police Station was informed that in Plantaže street, Ilidža municipality, a fire occurred on a passenger motor vehicle, a VW Golf 2, owned by P.A. from Sarajevo.

In Mošćanica street, belonging to the Old Town municipality, three cars owned by the same owner burned down. The Fiat Punto, Ford Mondeo, and Land Rover burned.

January 16

On January 16, 2015, around 2:10 AM, the Fourth Police Station was informed that in Šehitluci street, Ilidža municipality, a fire occurred on a passenger motor vehicle, a Fiat Punto, used by K.M. from Sarajevo.

January 14

On January 14, 2015, around 2:40 AM, the Second Police Station was informed that in Trg heroja street, Novo Sarajevo municipality, a fire occurred on a passenger motor vehicle, a VW Golf 5, owned by B.M. from Sarajevo, after which it spread to a passenger motor vehicle, a VW Golf 2, owned by B.A. from Sarajevo.

On January 12, 2015, around 10:30 PM, the Second Police Station was informed that in Topal Osman Paše street, Novo Sarajevo municipality, a fire occurred on a passenger motor vehicle, a Renault, owned by Č.A. from Sarajevo.

On January 12, 2015, around 12:45 AM, the Second Police Station was informed that in Drinska street, Novo Sarajevo municipality, a fire occurred on a passenger motor vehicle, an Audi A3, owned by D.S. from Sarajevo.

On January 10, 2015, around 11:25 PM, the Fourth Police Station was informed that in Hadželi street, Hadžići municipality, a fire occurred on a passenger motor vehicle, a VW Golf 2, owned by R.A. from Hadžići.

On January 8, 2015, around 10:25 AM, the Fifth Police Station was informed that in Moševačka street, Ilijaš municipality, a fire occurred on a truck, a Mercedes, used by F.Š. from Breza.

On January 4, 2015, around 1:30 AM, the First Police Station was informed that in Dugi sokak street, Old Town Sarajevo municipality, a fire occurred on passenger motor vehicles, a Fiat Tipo, owned by P.N. from Sarajevo, and a Ford Fiesta, owned by D.E. from Sarajevo.

On May 1, 2015, the Third Police Station was informed that a fire occurred on an off-road motor vehicle, a VW Iltis, license plate E84-O-791, owned by M.Dž. from Sarajevo, which was parked in Cazinska street at number 11, Novi Grad Sarajevo municipality.

On December 25, 2014, around 10:40 PM, the Third Police Station was informed that in a garage, on Hasiba Brankovića street, Novi Grad Sarajevo municipality, a fire occurred on a passenger motor vehicle, a VW Golf 4, owned by B.E. from Sarajevo.

On December 23, 2014, at 12:10 AM, the Third Police Station was informed that in Halilovići street, Novi Grad Sarajevo municipality, a fire occurred on a truck, a TAM, owned by the company “Papir servis” d.o.o. Sarajevo.

December 22

On December 22, 2014, around 2:30 AM, the First Police Station was informed that in Koševo street, Centar Sarajevo municipality, a fire occurred on an off-road motor vehicle, a Lexus GX-7, owned by M.E. from Sarajevo.

December 15

On December 15, 2014, at 2:25 AM, the Fourth Police Station was informed that in Bjelašnička street, Ilidža municipality, a fire occurred on a passenger motor vehicle, a GWM SAFE, owned by H.F. from Sarajevo.

On December 14, 2014, around 3:25 AM, the Second Police Station was informed that in Banjalučka street, Novo Sarajevo municipality, a fire occurred on a passenger motor vehicle, an Audi A6, owned by T.Z. from Sarajevo.

On December 12, 2014, the Fourth Police Station was informed that in Zujevinska street at number 12, Ilidža municipality, a fire occurred on a parked passenger motor vehicle, a VW Golf II, license plate J72-T-015, owned by P.K.M. from Ilidža.

On December 3, 2014, around 10:00 PM, in Kurta Šorka street, Ilidža municipality, a fire occurred on a motor vehicle, a VW Transporter, owned by D.A. from Sarajevo.
