Sarajevo residents donate books: Goražde Library receives 2,700 new titles

 

Representatives of Centar Municipality Sarajevo, led by Municipal Council Chairman Nedžad Ajnadžić, visited the National Library in Goražde and handed over 2,700 books donated by Sarajevo residents, reports the Patria News Agency.

The Commission of the Centar Municipal Council for Local Communities and Cooperation with Municipalities and Cities, and the Service for Local Self-Government organized a book collection drive in 15 local communities of Centar, which was responded to by a large number of citizens, as well as institutions such as the Faculty of Political Sciences, the Youth Theatre, the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office, and the JU Library Sarajevo, donating several hundred titles.

The President of the Commission for Local Communities, Samir Fazlić, stated on this occasion that the library in Goražde is now enriched with a significant number of professional literature titles and school reading materials for primary and secondary school students.

– In our drives for the libraries in Maglaj, Olovo, and Goražde, we collected over 5,000 books. We hope that the cooperation between Centar Municipality and Goražde will be expanded to other areas in the future, Fazlić emphasized.

Hamdo Sijerčić, director of the Culture Center Goražde, under which the National Library operates with a collection of 50,000 titles, expressed his gratitude, emphasizing that books are the most valuable gift for them and that such initiatives show how good the cooperation between the two municipalities is.

- We also thank you for the support that Centar Municipality has provided us in terms of personnel and material resources after the major floods. This donation means much more to us than the number of books donated, because we greatly appreciate the effort you have invested in collecting and delivering books to our city, which has a long tradition of cherishing the written word, emphasized Samira Drakovac, Assistant Head of Civil Protection and Local Communities of Goražde Municipality.

Chairman Ajnadžić stated that the legislative and executive authorities of Centar Municipality, regardless of their political affiliation, unanimously support cooperation with Goražde Municipality.

– This gift in the form of books is only one segment of our cooperation. We are trying to help this municipality and the Bosansko-podrinjski Canton in various ways. There are strong desires to establish cooperation at the institutional level, for which our municipal councils need to make decisions, emphasized Ajnadžić, whose words about the twinning of the two municipalities were confirmed by Edin Kunovac, Deputy Chairman of the Goražde Municipal Council.

Councilors Zora Ostojić, Ahmed Gerin, Senad Alić, Haris Fazlagić, Amer Kapo, and Jasmin Gazija also attended the handover of books on behalf of Centar Municipality, it was announced from Centar Municipality.
