Sarajevo schools given nine-day deadline to comment on five-year education development strategy

Minister of Education of Sarajevo Canton Elvir Kazazović has asked primary and secondary school principals to comment on the "Strategy for the Development of Education and Science of Sarajevo Canton for the period 2017-2020" within nine days.

In the document sent to schools, Kazazović states that the material was prepared by a Commission of the Government of Sarajevo Canton in cooperation with working groups, but that the five-year education development plan for the Canton would certainly be improved if suggestions also came from the schools themselves.

"We invite you to ensure that the text of the working material of the Strategy for the Development of Education and Science of Sarajevo Canton for the period 2017-2020 is made available to all school staff, and that you submit consolidated comments, proposals and suggestions to the Ministry no later than September 30, 2017," reads the letter to schools from Minister Kazazović.

The president of the Sarajevo Cantonal Board of the Independent Union of Primary Education and Upbringing, Saudin Sivro, told the Patria agency that the deadline for comments on the Strategy is too short and that it is practically impossible to provide a serious analysis of such an important document in just nine days.

"Schools received the Strategy on September 21. The final deadline for suggestions is September 30. Within these nine days, there are also two weekend days. It is unbelievable that the ministry gave a deadline of only a few days for opinions on the five-year education development strategy in Sarajevo Canton," Sivro believes.
