SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Along with medical professionals, police, and firefighters, taxi drivers worldwide are on the front lines of combating the coronavirus.
The situation is no better in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They are exposed to the virus because they transport people every day.
We found two taxi drivers from the Sarajevo taxi company at their stand near the Novi Grad municipality on Friday.
They were disinfecting their vehicles.
“There is less and less work,” they answer when asked how things are going, while spraying the interior of the vehicles, door handles, and the trunk.
“No, since this virus situation has gotten bad, a few rides a day, about 20 marks, and we sit here all day,” they say.
We try to encourage them by saying they might have more work due to the suspension of public transport, and they reply: “Oh, we wish this situation would pass, that's what we want.”
“We won't get rich, they will find another way. We are here sitting and waiting for one or two rides a day. They have also limited us to two passengers in the back. What difference does it make if they sit in the back when we are less than a meter apart. We have to use masks, hand sanitizers...”, say the taxi drivers.
The situation with the severe clinical picture of a young taxi driver in Bihać best shows how endangered taxi drivers are, both in our country and worldwide, so we wish them luck and that they stay safe from the coronavirus.
