Sarajevo high school students Lejla Skelić and Boris Velašević admitted to prestigious American MIT

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - MIT – Massachusets Institute of Technology in the United States of America will be enriched by two exceptional Bosnian-Herzegovinian talents this autumn, graduates of Richmond Park International High School in Sarajevo who were admitted to this prestigious University solely through their effort, perseverance, and dedication, the school announced. 

Boris Velašević and Lejla Skelić have been winning awards and medals at all national and international competitions in mathematics, physics, and informatics for many years, and during their four-year schooling, they have progressed and achieved their goal of studying at one of the best universities in the world.

Lejla explained how the application to MIT went.

“The application to MIT was personalized. During the interview, I was honest and open and had the opportunity to show my qualities and strengths, which contributed to my selection as a future student of that faculty,” said Lejla.

Also, at the recently held EGMO 2019 (European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad) in Ukraine (Kyiv), Lejla won second place and a silver medal, thus proving her talent once again.

Boris said he is very satisfied and excited about his success.

"You are never sure if they will accept you, after all, these are big universities and only a few get the chance to study there," said Boris, who was not only admitted to MIT but also received an offer to study at Columbia University in New York. Boris decided that he would choose MIT out of these two universities and that he can't wait to start a new chapter of his education, which will surely bring him many new challenges and opportunities.
