Sarajevo high school students cleaned the Barice picnic area

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - A large number of citizens, students, and professors from the Second High School and Obala High School are participating in the cleaning of the Barice picnic area, as part of the large campaign "Let's clean the city in one day" which is being implemented throughout the Sarajevo Canton. The entire initiative was launched by an informal group of citizens gathered around the need and idea to live in a clean and tidy city with their families and friends, not in a city of illegal dumps. The action started at 11:00 AM. The Municipality of Stari Grad also provided support. Edib Čengić, an employee of the Service for Investments and Communal Affairs, visited the students today and distributed garbage bags and other auxiliary materials. GRAS arranged transportation for the students, and the waste removal from Barice will be carried out by KJKP "Rad", whose employees are also at Barice today.

For Belinda Begović, a sports teacher from Obala High School, this action is an excellent thing: "This will have a very positive impact on the awareness of young people that they should not litter in the city, especially in such a beautiful picnic area as Barice. Unfortunately, many do not have that awareness and we see a lot of waste everywhere, so this will be a great thing for all students," said Professor Begović, praising the excellent response from her students who contacted her late last night and confirmed their participation.

"This is very good socially useful work. Many of us came from my school, and I hope we will do a good job, and that other schools will also join the action," Erol Karišik, a first-year student at Obala High School, told us. His schoolmate Kerim Omerović agreed with Erol, expressing satisfaction with today's action, but also regret that there is so much garbage: "We joined the action to make our city a more beautiful place and for others to follow our example."

The citizens' initiative "Let's clean the city in one day" was also supported by ASA Bank, which provided T-shirts, gloves, garbage bags, and all necessary cleaning equipment, as well as refreshments at the end. ASA Bank will also support the second phase of the project and finance the installation of garbage bins and benches, so that visitors can fully enjoy the natural wealth of this picnic area in Stari Grad.
