Sarajevo Bypass Reduces Traffic Jams: Enter Sarajevo via Rajlovac in Five Minutes

The Sarajevo Bypass, opened to traffic on June 26th this year, four days earlier than stipulated in the contract between the domestic consortium Euro-Asfalt and ŽGP and JP Autoceste of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has significantly reduced traffic jams when entering Sarajevo from the direction of Rajlovac, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

A Patria agency reporter tested the time required to enter Sarajevo from this direction before the bypass was opened to traffic, and the time required to enter Sarajevo from this direction after the bypass was opened to traffic.

Before June 26th, it took drivers between 20 and 45 minutes, and sometimes more, to pass through Rajlovac and reach Stup. After the Sarajevo Bypass was opened to traffic, drivers reach their destination in five to ten minutes along the same route.

The tests were conducted during morning hours, specifically at 8:00 AM, 8:30 AM, and 11:00 AM.

Although the Sarajevo Bypass still lacks an adequate connection within Sarajevo itself, which is planned from the direction of Stup, one of the largest traffic infrastructure projects in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the last 30 years, worth around 37 million KM, has already justified expectations and significantly reduced traffic jams when entering Sarajevo from this direction, which caused considerable headaches for drivers, writes the Patria agency.

Previously, several foreign companies, such as STC and Primorje from Slovenia, and Osjek-Kotekst from Croatia, attempted to build the bypass, but none of these construction companies managed to complete the Sarajevo Bypass.

The domestic consortium Euro-Asfalt and ŽGP built the bypass in ten months, four days ahead of the contracted deadline, thereby gaining a reference for participating in similar domestic and international tenders, writes Patria.
