Sarajevo: Ten cars stolen in February, three found

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - In the Canton Sarajevo area in February this year, 10 cases of grand theft of motor vehicles were committed, of which three were found and returned to their owners. Two vehicles were returned by the Ministry of Internal Affairs KS Police Administration, while one was returned by the owner himself. In January, 17 vehicles were stolen and six were found. Data for March is still unavailable, but according to Patria's findings, there have been vehicle thefts.

The number of grand thefts of motor vehicles in the Canton Sarajevo area has significantly decreased after the murder of two Sarajevo police officers, Adis Šehović and Davor Vujinović, in late October 2018. The murder of the two police officers has not been solved, but the investigation is focused on car theft and criminal groups.

We remind you that Šehović and Vujinović were killed in a patrol car after encountering thieves who were trying to steal a Golf VI car. They fled the scene after the murder, and since then, police actions have been focused on car theft groups, resulting in dozens of detentions, searches, and arrests of individuals linked to the murder of the two police officers. Srećko Trifković and Slaven Dakić are in custody, and are also being tried in the Volan case at the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina along with 23 other individuals accused of multiple criminal offenses. The organized group is accused of stealing more than 200 cars worth several million. Miloš Obradov, who was arrested in late November in Pale and is linked to the murder of the police officers, is also in custody. The investigation is being conducted by the KS Prosecutor's Office, which has not yet released any details regarding the murder of the police officers or possible perpetrators. At the proposal of the Prosecutor's Office, custody has been extended for all three arrested individuals.

Since the end of October until today, a significant drop in vehicle thefts has been recorded compared to previous years.
