Sarajevo applauds doctors and medical staff in fight against coronavirus

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - At 8 PM this evening, applause of support was performed in several Sarajevo neighborhoods for doctors, medical professionals, and other medical staff in Bosnia and Herzegovina who are doing everything to help patients infected with the coronavirus. Thus, in the Dobrinja neighborhood, as a sign of solidarity with Italy, which is currently the world's largest hotspot, the iconic song by Toto Cutugno "Lasciate mi cantare" was played, accompanied by applause for our doctors.

Applause was also heard in Alipašino Polje, Saraj Polje, Grbavica, Malta, and Ciglane, our readers report.

During the day, a call for this type of support spread through social networks, with citizens recommended not to leave their apartments and houses if possible, in order to reduce the possibility of virus spread as much as possible. Avoiding social contacts is advisable, and crisis teams in Bosnia and Herzegovina have adopted a series of measures to protect the population.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has 39 confirmed cases of coronavirus infection, and a particular danger is that one patient spread the infection at the University Clinical Hospital Mostar, where a woman in labor was also infected while her baby tested negative for the virus.

Tonight's applause of support is an indicator that empathy still exists in Bosnia and Herzegovina; we just need a little more discipline in the days ahead.
