Over 1,000 Housing Units Renovated: Alžirac Settlement Gets a New Look

Thanks to the accelerated pace of renovation works, within the EU Flood Recovery Programme, 1,108 housing units in 24 flooded municipalities in BiH have been renovated, while in the Alžirac settlement in the municipality of Šamac, 28 houses have been rebuilt, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

As stated by Andy McGuffie, Head of Communications and Spokesperson for the Delegation of the European Union and EU Special Representative, by the end of 2014, 3,500 people had returned to their homes.

Edis Arifagić, Head of the EU Flood Recovery Programme, said that the Alžirac settlement is the most special project because it involves socially vulnerable families grouped in one place.

Most of the houses were built in 1961 as prefabricated houses of weaker construction, which is why the extent of flood damage was significant.

Savo Minić, Mayor of the Municipality of Šamac, said that smiles are returning to people's faces, they are returning to their homes, and we can see great satisfaction.

The value of the EU Programme is 43.52 million euros, of which 42.24 million euros were provided by the EU.
