Sanin Bogunić elected new President of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH

(Patria) - Sanin Bogunić has been elected the new President of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH.

The decision on his appointment was made at the regular session of the HJPC BiH, which began this morning in Sarajevo, and 11 members of the Council voted for Bogunić, while Izo Tankić received four votes.

The election procedure was carried out in accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the HJPC BiH (Article 4a), which includes the election of the president, and then two vice-presidents. Everyone has the right to apply or be nominated for president and vice-president, as well as for a permanent member of the HJPC Presidency.

Sanela Gorušanović Butigan presided over the session until the election of the new president of the Council.

She proposed a three-member commission to oversee the voting process, consisting of Ljiljana Bošnjak Glizijan, Džamna Vranić, and Davor Martinović.

Sanin Bogunić was born in 1977 in Goražde. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Sarajevo in 2002. He passed the judicial exam in 2004.

He obtained his Master's degree in 2012 on the topic "Electoral System of Bosnia and Herzegovina - Alternative Models" at the Faculty of Political Sciences at the University of Sarajevo. Since 2002, he has worked in the judiciary in positions such as judicial trainee, legal associate, and legal advisor at the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

By decision of the HJPC BiH dated March 21, 2008, he was appointed prosecutor at the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton. From January 2015 to December 2018, he served as head of the Department for Economic Crime and Corruption at the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton. He was a consultant for the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH and USAID within the Swiss project from 2015 to 2016. Since December 2020, he has been on the Regional List of Educators for Procedural and Substantive Criminal Law.

He is a scholarship holder of the US Department of State, where he participated in a one-month active training program in the judiciary and law enforcement agencies of the USA during 2016. He was also a member of the commission for taking the professional administrative exam at the Ministry of Justice of the Federation of BiH from 2013 to 2016. In 2012, he published the professional book "Electoral System of Bosnia and Herzegovina - Alternative Models".

Prosecutors of cantonal prosecutor's offices in the Federation of BiH elected him as a member of the HJPC BiH in July 2021, and he took over the position of member on September 8, 2021.
