Sanica was terrified by a mysterious hole last year, now the ground won't stop shaking

Residents of Sanica near Ključ have been in fear for a whole month due to the incessant ground tremors, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP).

Seismological instruments of the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute recorded a strong earthquake in this area at two hours past midnight on the night from Thursday to Friday, measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale. Two more earthquakes were felt until the afternoon.

- People in Sanica are scared! - said Suad Kurbegović, a teacher at the high school in Ključ, for the Bosnian news agency Patria.

- The earthquakes did not only occur last night; ground tremors have been felt for the entire month. So far, more than 30 tremors have been recorded, and we do not know how this will develop further.

Last year, also before the New Year, residents of Sanica were disturbed by a huge hole that appeared overnight and swallowed the local lake. To this day, no one has determined why the hole appeared.

Geologists who examined the mysterious hole reportedly confirmed that beneath Sanica and the wider area lies a giant water table, which caused the crater to appear. However, to this day, this has not been confirmed with certainty.

Professor Kurbegović explains that no one has a proper answer for the frequent tremors in Sanica either. It is clear, he says, only that people are tense and reluctantly await the night, writes Patria.
