Sanica no longer shaking, but locals remain fearful

Ground tremors in the village of Sanica near Ključ have stopped, but locals remain fearful, as they do not know when an earthquake will disturb them again and whether it will be destructive, reports the BH News Agency Patria (NAP).

Residents of this small village in Krajina have been living in fear since 2013. First, a mysterious hole appeared, which swallowed a local lake and threatened nearby houses, and then, from November last year, this place has been constantly shaking.

Seismological instruments of the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute recorded a strong earthquake in the area of this place at two o'clock after midnight at the end of December, measuring 3.9 degrees on the Richter scale, which drove residents into the streets.

Experts currently have no explanation for the mysterious hole, nor for why Sanica is shaking, except that they assume there is a large water basin beneath the settlement, which is why the entire area is unstable.
