Sanders rejects Bloomberg's financial support for election campaign

(Patria) – One of the first advisors to Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders revealed that the currently leading Democratic candidate categorically refused the offered financial support from billionaire Mike Bloomberg.

Namely, Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York, who is one of Sanders' election rivals among Democrats, offered an extremely generous financial backing to Sanders if he wins the Democratic presidential nomination – just to defeat Trump.

In fact, Bloomberg said he would support any candidate with the same goal.

However, Sanders' close associate Jeff Weaver announced that the leading candidate Sanders does not want Bloomberg's help.

- Categorically no, Weaver said on NBC's news program after the primary debate and explained why: 'Bernie says he will fund the campaign with small contributions and I believe we can do that. I think we can raise more than a billion dollars through small contributions,' Weaver emphasized his boss's words.

At the same time, Bloomberg announced that he will not spend money on someone who does not want his money. His advisor Howard Wolfson confirmed this on the same program and added that 'everyone else said they want help, including Elizabeth Warren – if she wins, we will do everything to help her.'

Bloomberg has so far spent $500 million on his own presidential campaign. He announced that he will continue the massive campaign until December regardless of his own result, all to help Democrats in the general election.

However, it will hardly change Sanders' stance, who opposes the influence of billionaires on politics, and in that context, he often accused Bloomberg of trying to buy the White House.

At a recent campaign rally in North Carolina, Sanders said: 'We believe in old-fashioned democracy – one person, one vote – not billionaires buying elections,' reports Euronews.
