Championship generation of FK Sarajevo candidate for the April 6 Award

The Bordeaux club has nominated the first championship generation of the Sarajevo Football Club 1966/67 for the "April 6 Award of the City of Sarajevo", reports the Patria news agency.

The championship generation of the Sarajevo Football Club 1966/67 in the mentioned competitive season of the First Yugoslav League brought the first championship title of the former state to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

We recall that Sarajevo in the mentioned season with a total of 42 points and a record of 18 wins, 6 draws and 6 losses won the first championship title of Yugoslavia, when the players of the Bordeaux club left behind Dinamo Zagreb with 40 points and Partizan with 38 points. No previous Yugoslav football champion had dominated the championship like Sarajevo did that year, which spent 25 of the 30 rounds played at the top of the table.

The players who brought the first championship title to Bosnian soil and the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina were: Ibrahim Sirćo, Mirsad Fazlagić, Fuad Muzurović, Sead Jesenković, Milenko Bajić, Fahrudin Prljača, Boško Prodanović, Sreten Šiljkut, Vahidin Musemić, Stjepan Blažević, Boško Antić, Asim Ferhatović, Refik Muftić, Svetozar Vujović, Dragan Vujanović, Boro Beatović, Anton Mandić, Sreten Dilberović, Osman Maglajlija and Miodrag Makić, and the team was led from the bench by Miroslav "Meho" Brozović.

A large number of players, members of the first championship generation of the Sarajevo Football Club 1966/67, also played for the Yugoslavia national team, thus further promoting the quality of sports in the city of Sarajevo. Among the national team players, it is certainly worth mentioning Asim Ferhatović, Mirsad Fazlagić, Fahrudin Prljača, Vahidin Musemić, Fuad Muzurović and others.

With the "April 6 Award of the City of Sarajevo", this fantastic generation of the Sarajevo Football Club would receive deserved recognition, considering their immeasurable contribution to the popularization of sports in the city of Sarajevo, as well as the city itself in the former state, and across the old continent.

After winning the championship title in the 1966/67 season, Sarajevo brought one of the biggest clubs in Europe, the famous English Manchester United, to the Olympic Stadium "Asim Ferhatović-Hase", with the match being watched by more than 40,000 spectators, it was announced from FK Sarajevo.
