Salkić: EUFOR forces should be in Foča, Višegrad, Bratunac, Srebrenica, Zvornik, not around Sarajevo

(Patria) - SDA MP in the National Assembly of Republika Srpska Ramiz Salkić issued a statement today regarding the news of the beating of a Bosniak man in Višegrad.

Salkić points out that the dehumanization of Bosniaks in this entity has been ongoing since the very beginning of the return process, and has been more pronounced in the last decade through intensified general systemic discrimination against Bosniaks.

According to him, the inadequate reaction of the competent authorities in RS is one of the reasons for the continuous attacks on Bosniaks.

- If we add to this the thesis, fostered and developed by the political leadership of this entity, that this is a Serb entity and that Bosniaks are discriminated against, then attacks on Bosniaks are a logical and expected consequence - Salkić emphasizes.

He points out that the fact that the perpetrators of attacks on Bosniaks in Višegrad, Bratunac, Zvornik, and other places that occurred only during 2023 have not yet been punished is motivating for potential attackers.

(Patria) - Police officers of the Višegrad Police Station have identified a person from Višegrad suspected of inflicting severe bodily injuries on GB from Višegrad on January 30, 2024, around 11:45 PM.

- Attacks on those who returned to their homes after displacement and their descendants should be treated as criminal offenses with long prison sentences.

The way the police and judiciary of this entity have handled this so far will not stop the attacks, and they will unfortunately be repeated in the future.

The High Representative should act in this regard and make a decision to amend the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and EUFOR forces should be deployed in Foča, Višegrad, Bratunac, Srebrenica, Zvornik, Bijeljina, and other places on the Drina River, not around Sarajevo and other places in the interior of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Unfortunately, Bosniaks in this entity are left to themselves, no matter how much we try to believe that the state and the international community have mechanisms and want to protect us from extremists and radicals in this entity.

Unfortunately, our safety increasingly depends on how willing we are to confront the attackers ourselves, who usually cowardly attack a lone victim in groups, proving their nationalistically charged barbarism - Salkić stated.
