Salkić: Rise in purchase price of Russian gas also affected price increase in BiH

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Federal Government today gave its consent to the wholesale price of natural gas for distribution companies in the Federation of BiH, starting from 1 May 2019, which amounts to 640 KM per 1,000 cubic meters, an increase of 29.29 percent compared to the previous price, the FBiH Government announced.

In the statement, the Government also emphasized that the decision to increase the price of natural gas was made considering the costs of the purchase price, the current position of BH-Gas d.o.o. Sarajevo, as well as strategic projects, while reviewing all aspects of this company's operations.

The gas price increase was also supported by the Supervisory Board of BH Gas, as well as the Federal Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mining.

BH Gas Director Jasmin Salkić told the Patria news agency that even with this gas price increase, the Federation of BiH remains among the cheaper gas markets in Europe.

"From the fifth place for the cheapest gas among 28 countries in Europe - which Eurostat published a few days ago - after this price increase, we should be in seventh or eighth place, which is still more favorable compared to many other countries," said Salkić.

"There has been a rise in the purchase price of Russian gas. That is the only reason why BH Gas had to raise gas prices," added Salkić.
