Salkić: Events in Srebrenica and Višegrad show the society we live in

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Incidents involving groups and individuals on Christmas Eve and the celebration of a religious holiday, in a manner that intimidates and disrespects your neighbors through insults and behavior, are condemnable and worthy of contempt. The behavior of those who call themselves believers in Srebrenica, Bratunac, and Višegrad certainly causes the greatest harm to those who are true believers and who celebrate the holiday with family and friends, said Ramiz Salkić, Vice-President of the BiH entity of RS, regarding the incidents and provocations recorded yesterday in the areas of Srebrenica and Višegrad.

"Columns of vehicles whose aim is not to celebrate the holiday, but to provoke, insult, and intimidate, show the state of society we live in, which is produced and shaped by the authorities, the education system, the media, and the Serbian Orthodox Church in this entity. Columns of vehicles with loud music passing through the Potočari Memorial Center, where victims of the genocide against Bosniaks in the UN 'safe zone' of Srebrenica, committed by the army and parts of the RS police, are buried, shows that the ideology of those who committed genocide is alive and still ongoing," Salkić states.

"The footage from Srebrenica and Višegrad is even more devastating when we consider that these incidents repeat year after year, and we have no adequate reaction from the entity police. Also, it is a civilizational defeat that we have never had any reaction from the entity authorities, nor from the opposition, media, intellectuals, the SPC, and non-governmental organizations in this entity, which creates the impression that such incidents are tacitly approved. I call on the entity government to finally understand and start behaving and implementing policies based on the fact that this entity is not Serbian, but an entity of all citizens, and to ensure security, respect, and appreciation for all citizens. If these incidents remain unpunished, they will certainly repeat in the future, which opens up the possibility that one day they will get out of control of those who manage them today and use them for their political gain. We expect the entity MUP to inform the public about what has been undertaken regarding these, as well as other incidents in which national and religious hatred and intolerance are spread, which is directed against Bosniaks in this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina," said the Vice-President Salkić.
