Salkić-Bunjevac most responsible for the reconstruction of the Public Library in Maglaj

When the flood devastated the town of Maglaj in May 2014, the only library in the municipality of Maglaj, which had existed for 57 years, was almost completely destroyed in that water surge. Out of 40,000 books it held, around 28,000 titles were destroyed. Only through the composure of director Nina Salkić-Bunjevac and her staff were old collections and some of the first editions of writer Edhem Mulabdić saved. Therefore, she has been chosen as the cultural personality of the year by the Patria agency.

The fight for the recovery of the Public Library lasted for months, and Salkić-Bunjevac initiated an action that was joined by all good people in BiH, businessmen, cultural workers, and friends, and the library space was renovated in a relatively short time, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

Flooring was installed, new furniture and shelves were donated, and books arrived from all parts of BiH. The library received more than 30,000 titles, so today it has a collection of 50,000 books.

The renovated library opened its doors to its users on August 20, 2014, and many commented that it was even more beautiful now.

Salkić-Bunjevac, with her associates, organized a series of activities in the library premises, both for the youngest and for numerous delegations and guests.

Nina Salkić Bunjevac was born in 1965 and holds a Master's degree in Literary and Historical Sciences, is a graduate librarian and a graduate comparative literature scholar. She has been the director of the Public Library in Maglaj since 2003.

Since then, the library has operated positively, thanks to excellently realized projects, and is considered one of the best institutions of its kind in BiH.

She is the conceptual initiator and organizer of the cultural event "Mulabdić Days of Culture", which is continuously held in Maglaj, and which has hosted numerous eminent writers and scientists.

She initiated publishing activities at the municipal level and realized a series of significant publishing projects.
