Humorous video: Elvir Bucalo submits application for BiH's EU membership

Bosnian-Herzegovinian journalist Elvir Bucalo recorded a humorous video report in which he submits an application for Bosnia and Herzegovina's membership in the European Union.

The application did not get further than the entrance doors of the European Commission building, through which Bucalo simply explained where Bosnia and Herzegovina actually stands in the process of joining the European Union, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

Although political leaders in Bosnia and Herzegovina have proudly announced the upcoming submission of our country's application for EU membership in recent weeks, Bucalo showed that an application for membership in the European Union is not a matter of a country's desire, but of how much that country has done on real reforms within its own society.

- Are you tired of explaining everything that Bosnia and Herzegovina must do before joining the EU?! And what would you say about the final negotiation process that should only begin after candidate status, where everything that Bosnia and Herzegovina is and is not is discussed in 35 chapters, and then compared with European norms, laws, and standards. And there you have everything - from the prescribed size of cucumbers and peppers to democratic standards... - says Bucalo.

The journalist further explains that someone idle calculated that European laws, with all additions, points, and clarifications, have grown to 170,000 pages. If they were lined up, they would be 193 kilometers long; longer than the road between Sarajevo and Banja Luka or the road from Sarajevo to the sea. And it is predicted that by 2020 - when BiH, with more wisdom and effort, could approach EU membership - this book could even double.

In addition, Bucalo notes, European laws do not need to be read, they need to be applied, writes Patria.
