Salihović met with US Ambassador Maureen Cormack

As part of her first official visit to Srebrenica, the Ambassador of the United States of America to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Maureen Cormack, met with Almir Salihović, who presented the activities and plans of the coalition of civil society organizations "Prvi mart", reports the BH News Agency Patria.

- I informed the Ambassador that securing adequate political representation and creating space for greater organization of citizens from returnee communities on concrete issues is key for return. It is necessary for our voice to be heard, and for us to recognize the opportunity to start working at the local level on a different approach for the progress of the community - said Salihović.

The focus of the coalition "Prvi mart" is the mobilization of returnees, refugees, and displaced persons with the aim of increasing turnout in the 2016 local elections.

- We want to ensure the representation of returnees where it is currently lacking, and increase it where it exists. The potential exists, and we will focus on people who have returned, encourage their greater engagement, and build the capacities of future candidates so that they have concrete policies that address life issues. Only in this way can we draw out those who stayed home in previous cycles to the elections - concluded Salihović.
