Safet Softić new president of the Assembly of the Islamic Community in BiH

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The constitutive session of the Assembly of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina was held today in Sarajevo, where the leadership of this highest representative body of the IZ in BiH was elected.

Safet Softić was elected president of the Assembly, and Edhem Bičakčić and Mirza Šabić were elected as vice-presidents, MINA reported.

Softić replaced Hasan Čengić in the position of president of the Assembly of the IZ, Patria writes.

Faruk Hašimović was appointed secretary of the Assembly.

At the beginning of the session, the reis-ul-ulema addressed the members, stating, among other things:

„The strength of this community does not stem from our high positions, nor from the material basis it possesses. This community draws its strength from the trust of our honorable Muslim men and women, our community members. These are good and noble people who, with great dedication, build and preserve our communities, maintain mosques, send children to mektebs and madrasas, perform their religious duties and obligations, and establish endowments. This is a community of hosts who set aside from their property for endowments, pay their zakat and sadaqat al-fitr, and who, through collections, support every infrastructural project in the Community and respond to the needs of Muslims in difficult circumstances...“
