US and EU strike first artificial intelligence agreement

(Patria) - The United States and the European Union have announced an agreement to accelerate and improve the use of artificial intelligence for intensifying agriculture, healthcare, response in
emergency situations, climate forecasting, and the power grid, Reuters reported. 

A senior US administration official, who discussed the initiative shortly before the official
announcement, called it the first comprehensive agreement on artificial intelligence between the US
and Europe. Previously, agreements on this issue were limited to specific areas such as
improving privacy, the official said.

Artificial intelligence modeling, which refers to machine learning algorithms that use
data to make logical decisions, could be used to improve the speed and efficiency of
government operations and services.

The initiative will give governments greater access to detailed data and artificial intelligence
models, leading to more efficient emergency response and power grid management, as well as
other benefits, the administration official said. The partnership is currently signed only between the White House and the European Commission. A senior
administration official said that other countries will be invited to join in the coming
months.
