Assembly of the Islamic Community adopts Declaration on Srebrenica: Develop a "No to Genocide" program

The Assembly of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina issued a fatwa declaring the victims of the Srebrenica genocide as martyrs, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria. The fatwa also mandates the Riyasat to, in accordance with the Islamic tradition of Bosniaks, ensure programs that will permanently preserve the memory of the martyrs, victims of genocide and war crimes.

At today's session in Sarajevo, the Assembly also adopted the Declaration on the Genocide of Bosniaks in Srebrenica, according to which it is expected that the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the entity governments develop a program „No to Genocide“, which would over a period of 15 years ensure all necessary conditions for eliminating the consequences of the genocide of Bosniaks in the areas of Srebrenica, Zvornik, Vlasenica, Bratunac, Milići and Žepa and a return to the demographic situation according to the 1991 census. 

According to the same Declaration, the Assembly expects that Serbia, Montenegro, the Netherlands, the United Nations, Bosnia and Herzegovina and all others express a desire to be donors for the establishment of an international fund for eliminating the consequences of the genocide in Srebrenica of one billion euros, which would be collected over the next five years and used for the „No to Genocide“ project. 

The Assembly called on the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the National Assembly of Republika Srpska and the Federal Parliament to hold commemorative sessions every July 11, with broadcasts on all three public broadcasters.

The Assembly demands that the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina adopt a law banning the denial of the genocide of Bosniaks in Srebrenica and a permanent ban on the official use of insignia, flags, emblems and symbols used by the Army of Republika Srpska as the perpetrator of the genocide of Bosniaks in Srebrenica, for the entire territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina. 

To the competent institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the international community, the Assembly proposes the formation of the Srebrenica District in the area of the municipalities: Srebrenica, Zvornik, Vlasenica, Bratunac, Rogatica, Žepa and Milići, where the victims of the genocide of Bosniaks mostly lived, given that the authorities of Republika Srpska have failed over the past 20 years to ensure equal rights and standards for all citizens, especially Bosniaks.
