Sabina Vinković from Mostar wins first place at European genetics competition

MOSTAR, (Patria) - Sabina Vinković, a final-year student at Mostar Gymnasium, won this year's European genetics competition held in Milan.

At the competition organised by the European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG), Sabina Vinković took first place.

At the ESHG Congress in Milan, her work was praised by a large number of genetics experts.

- We thank Sabina for presenting Mostar Gymnasium in the best light! We wish her much success in her further education and research work - said representatives of Mostar Gymnasium.

Sabina Vinković also received an honourable mention for her work at last year's competition, thus becoming the first person in the history of this competition to receive an award two years in a row.

Sabina's paper dealt with genetic testing in sports. In Sabina's category, the 'DNA Day Essay contest', second and third place were won by students from Turkey. The European Society of Human Genetics was delighted that students from 19 European countries submitted 124 essays for this year's competition.

As many as 63 experts selected three winners and seven honorary authors of papers. The names of the winners and those who received honourable mentions were announced before more than 3,500 international scientists and doctors participating in the European Human Genetics Conference in Milan. The winners received diplomas and cash prizes.
