From the scene: Serbs also respect the victims and July 11, but do not want to speak publicly about it

In Srebrenica, it is almost impossible to find a free bed. Most rooms have been booked since the beginning of the week, and the few that remained were rented by guests on Friday before noon, reports a reporter from the Bosnian news agency Patria.

A large number of guests constantly arriving in Potočari from all over the world are slowly forming tent settlements where they will spend the night. Some will sleep in cars, and the braver ones are convinced that they will not be able to sleep at the largest mass execution site in Bosnia and Herzegovina anyway, so they do not need official accommodation.

Everyone came with one goal: to pay tribute to the innocent victims of the Srebrenica genocide.

The arrival of the participants of the Peace March, who set off from Nezuk on July 8, is planned for around 5 p.m., when the carrying out of 136 coffins with the remains from the hall of the former battery factory will also begin.

Friends, family, and unknown guests constantly visit the hall with the coffins, paying respects to the victims and laying flowers. It is hard for anyone to hold back tears at that sight.

In Potočari itself, as well as in Srebrenica, it seems everyone has a task. The commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the largest genocide on European soil since World War II is certainly an event that will draw the eyes of the entire world tomorrow.

The mere fact that former U.S. President Bill Clinton, as well as other high-ranking dignitaries, have announced their arrival speaks volumes about why Srebrenica and Bosnia and Herzegovina will be in the focus of the world public tomorrow.

Organizers claim that everything has gone smoothly so far, and they hope it will remain that way.

The local Serb population, at least those on official duty such as police officers, municipal workers, etc., perform their tasks professionally.

On the other hand, those Serbs who are not directly involved in the commemoration of the Srebrenica genocide anniversary do not cause problems. They often avoid even leaving their homes.

However, if they are not too much in the public eye, they have no problem helping their closest Bosniak neighbor with preparations for July 11, but on the condition that their name is not mentioned anywhere, writes Patria.
