Zenica and Breza miners descend into mines with risk, emerge as paupers

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Miners who were supposed to descend into the pit this morning for the first shift and perform regular tasks did not do so due to blocked accounts and unpaid meal allowances.

The accounts of the mines in Zenica and Breza were unblocked in January after the payment of gross salaries for December, and after the money was paid into the miners' accounts, the main account of RMU Zenica was blocked again by the Tax Administration of the Federation of BiH, to which the Zenica mine owes nearly five million KM in taxes. 

We remind you that Zenica miners recently pointed out again the difficult conditions in the mines. Such conditions are often the cause of accidents in which miners are seriously injured.

Thus, on January 27, another miner died in the Stara Jama pit of RMU Zenica after rocks fell on him. 

The RMU Zenica union then stated that the miners had had enough of everything and that "if they are going to die, they will not die alone."
