Miners do not interest politicians: Tuzla Canton government refuses to give part of its salary to improve their status

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - That the support of most politicians in Tuzla Canton for miners is only declarative was shown by the rejection of the initiative of Mahir Mešalić from DF at the session of the Cantonal Assembly on reducing the salaries of deputies and ministers. According to Mešalić's proposal, these funds would be used for concrete assistance to miners of the Kreka mine.

- Those who sent the most letters of support and press releases for the miners voted AGAINST and rejected this initiative. They showed in practice who they are, what they are, and how ready they are to express personal solidarity. Enough lies, frauds, and open letters! - Mešalić emphasized.

From the Assembly majority of PDA, SBB, SDP, Our Party, only one SDP deputy supported the proposal. According to Mešalić's estimate, only the savings from this initiative would amount to about 1.7 million KM, which would be significant help for the miners.

- My plan was to also call on all holders of public functions at other levels of government, especially at the level of the City of Tuzla, where most miners of RMU Kreka gravitate, to act in the same way, and thus make a concrete contribution to remedying the difficult situation in which the miners find themselves, said Mešalić.

Many will characterize Mešalić's initiative as populism, but it nevertheless clearly shows that politicians are only fully ready to defend their own interests.
