New Zealand TV and radio broadcast adhan live, PM Ardern quoted Prophet Muhammad

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The first Friday prayer after the terrorist attack in New Zealand, in Christchurch, was marked by the live broadcast of the adhan on state radio and television stations.

On Radio New Zealand and Television New Zealand, the adhan was broadcast live, after last Friday Tarant Brenton killed 50 and wounded as many Muslims.

Across New Zealand, remembrance programs and tributes were held for the victims of the terrorist attack at the Al Noor and Linwood mosques.

After the adhan for the Friday prayer was broadcast via public broadcasters, a two-minute tribute was held nationwide for those killed.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern attended the Friday prayer in Hagley Park in Christchurch.

In a brief address before the Friday prayer, Prime Minister Ardern quoted a hadith of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, in which he said that all believers are like one body.

"Prophet Muhammad said: 'Believers show respect, compassion and sympathy to one another, and they are like one body. If one part of the body suffers, the other parts join it in pain.' New Zealand is with you. In grief, we are one," Ardern said, adding “our hearts are broken but we are not defeated."

Many women in New Zealand responded to Prime Minister Ardern's call and wore headscarves today as a sign of solidarity with Muslims.
