RTV FBiH calls BHRT to reason and cooperation: Shutting down our program has elements of a criminal offense

(Patria) - Following the decision of the BHRT Management to shut down the production and realization of the radio-television program of RTV FBiH, the Management Board of RTV FBiH once again called on the BHRT Management to reason and cooperation, instead of further deepening the crisis and jeopardizing the work of both public broadcasters based in Sarajevo and suspending the core activity of RTV FBiH.

"By denying the realization of FTV's political shows, citizens of the Federation and BiH are denied the opportunity to learn about the views, ideas and plans of protagonists on the domestic political scene, and in this way BHRT directly violates the constitutional right to information.

At the same time, our workers are denied the constitutional right to work, while also causing great material damage to RTV FBiH.

The Management Board of the Federal Radio-Television warns that the announced actions of BHRT would have unforeseeable consequences for partner private and public companies that also perform their core activities through the RTV FBiH program.

For all the reasons listed, the legal responsibility of the BHRT management as well as liability for damages in this case is certain. Therefore, we again call on the BHRT Management to reason.

It is known that RTV FBiH, until the interruption of collection on December 31, 2023, and the distribution of the RTV fee, regularly paid all obligations to BHRT every month and intends to continue doing so as soon as the distribution of the RTV fee based on legal grounds is established.

We remind that on this basis, for more than 200 previous months, we have duly paid over 100 million convertible marks to BHRT.

The BHRT Management is well aware that we have not been fulfilling these obligations regularly only in the last four months when we were left without the RTV fee as our main income, and for the termination of the RTV Fee Agreement on December 31, 2023, BHRT bears responsibility by not signing it.

So, we paid for all services for more than twenty years, and now, because we did not pay for the last four months for the justified reasons stated, BHRT decided to shut down the RTV FBiH program. This is unacceptable in business and any other ethics, and since these are public broadcasters, we fear it also has elements of a criminal offense.

In the same period when we were deprived of the main income from the RTV fee, BHRT received 4 million convertible marks from the relevant Ministry to continue BHRT's work, not to spend the entire amount 'in a flash' and start shutting down the program of the federal public broadcaster.

Instead of exhausting ourselves, we call on BHRT to finally sign the Agreement with Elektroprivreda BiH, which on one hand will guarantee the legal distribution of the RTV fee, and on the other hand will enable higher revenues for BHRT of up to several million marks annually, as FTV has offered in the past two months through a concrete internal Agreement between the two broadcasters.

We do not understand why BHRT persistently rejects such proposals, while not offering any other proposal based on the Law.

We reiterate that the implementation of these proposals would enable uninterrupted broadcasting of programs for both public broadcasters, salaries for all their workers, and staying within the existing legal framework that guarantees a unique Public Service in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
